What’s An EV? – A Futuristic Study

As time goes on, innovations are made in technology. I bet that you’ve noticed that things today are not like the things a couple of years ago because they are more modernized and cutting-edge, especially cars!

In this futuristic study, I take you on a look back in time to old cars, telling you what an EV is, and explaining how it works.

A Look Back in Time

The very first car dates back to January 29th, 1886, when Carl Benz applied for a patent for his “vehicle powered by a gas engine.” The patent (#37435) is regarded as the birth certificate of the first practical automobile and the first car put into production.

The Benz Patent-Motorwagen

Since then, cars have kept on being improved by newly added technologies and infrastructures, some of them being computer transformation, anti-lock brakes, tire pressure sensors, electronic stability control, features like airbags, seat belts, crumple zones, and a bevy of automated safety technologies. The interior and exterior design have also changed to become more spacious, meeting certain consumer requirements. These days, the newest type of car is the EV.

Cars Then And Now

What’s An EV?

An EV, or electric vehicle, in simple terms, is a vehicle that doesn’t use an internal combustion engine and gasoline for power and instead uses battery-powered electric motors powered by an external electric source, hence the name “electric” vehicle.

Electric Vehicle (EV)

To elaborate further on this, I have created a chart that you can view:

Even though they seem all-new and groundbreaking, did you know that EVs first came out in the 1800s? The first EV (electric carriage as he called it), powered by the non-rechargeable primary cells, was invented in 1832 by Scottish inventor Robert Anderson! And then came 1890, when William Morrison created a successful electric car with a top speed of 22 kmh. A couple of years later, Tesla’s 2008 Roadster was the world’s first premium all-electric sedan. And now, there are a variety of EV brands worldwide, with the most popular being Tesla Motors, followed by Volkswagen, BYD, Hyundai, Toyota, etc.

The First EV!!!

Legacy Ranch Cricket – The Freshman Finale

Cricket. A sensational bat-and-ball sport played between two teams of eleven players. The game is played on a circular field with a central pitch where bowlers deliver the ball and batters aim to score runs. Worldwide, today, cricket is one of the world’s most followed sports, and is played in various areas, including central Texas.

In 2022, high schoolers in Central Texas formed the USA High School Cricket League. In 2024, Liberty Hill ISD opened its brand new high school: Legacy Ranch HS. As an only freshman campus, building up to a full school by the 2028 school year, LRHS had many opportunities, such as creating a cricket team, which my friend Laksh Ravi accomplished. And thus, LRHS Cricket was born.

Quickly starting up, small practices were held to train. Officially joining the league in September, LR Cricket debuted in friendly matches. LR proved the skeptics wrong by holding 1st place in the table in the friendly leagues, crushing other experienced teams. In January came time to compete for the USA HS Cricket Cup, and LR continued dominating the pitch. I played my season debut in the first game, LRHS VS Round Rock High School Game, in which we won by a landslide.

Making it through the bracket, finishing in 2nd place, LR qualified to move to the semifinals against RRHS. Beating Round Rock again, Legacy Ranch High School, the brand new rookie freshman team with barely any experience, reached the finals versus Westwood High School. As the defending champs, a team with a roster filled with experienced 10-12 graders, Westwood was not going to give an easy challenge.

On April 12, 2025, in Lakeline Park, at 4:30 PM kicked off the final match. Off to the side lay the big and bright golden USA HS Cricket Cup, and next to it the silver 2nd place runners-up trophy. Adding to the team’s crowd of support, LHISD School Board President Megan Parsons and her husband, Mr. Parsons, and Sergeant Lemenager, the Wrangler & Panther Cadets instructor (whose class I am in), came to watch the game. Parents were scattered around the park, and everyone was eager to watch.

Mrs. Parsons, Sgt. Lemenager, Mr. Parsons

Westwood won the toss and chose to bowl, leaving LR to bat. Bhargav Naidu and Sarvin Agal opened the innings. Bhargav fell short and got out early, and Captain Laksh Ravi walked onto the pitch. Sarvin and Laksh carried a 100+ run partnership and brought the team to 115 runs. Laksh got run out, so vice-captain Nikhil Rammisetty walked onto the pitch to finish off the game. LR finished with 123 runs in 15 overs for 3 wickets.

During the break, we boys huddled and were fired up for a second inning. In this war, every ball would be crucial to win. Westwood wouldn’t let their batters miss any ball and kept a strong fight. Our bowlers, Sarvin, Nikhil S, Nikhil R, and Laksh, performed really well, getting shocking wickets. I got a short-stop run out by hitting the wicket too. As tense as the game was, we celebrated each wicket.

In time, the game became super pressurized, coming down to Westwood needing 1 run in 1 ball. They score, they win. Sarvin paced up to the crease and threw the most heart-pounding ball of the game, and it struck through the wickets: BOWLED OUT!

The score tied, meaning for a tie break, both teams would each play a super over, 6 balls to score the most runs. Round Rock went out first and scored 12 runs. LR going in fell short to only 6 runs in the first 3 balls with one wicket too. Nikhil Rammisetty went in for big shots, but in the end, Legacy Ranch scored only 11/13 runs needed to win.

One run short, short of the USA HS Cricket CUP. The team was heartbroken. As the teams lined up, LHISD Board President, Mrs. Megan Parsons, presented trophies. Legacy Ranch got the 2nd place cup, and Round Rock boasted the golden trophy, screaming and jumping around with joy.

It was a hard-fought game for the Legacy Ranch Wranglers. A surprisingly spectacular performance, too. Not only were we an all-freshman rookie team, but we also made it through teams with all kinds of crazy experienced players in the season, and had a neck-to-neck fight with the best team in the league, Westwood High School. Even though it wasn’t an appreciated loss, Legacy Ranch had made its mark in the USA HS Cricket League. This wasn’t a loss. It was the start to a LEGACY.

Wreck ‘Em Wranglers.

What Would Make You Care About the Negative Effects of Inflation?

You’ve probably seen that the prices for everything are rising. Prices of things such as gasoline, cars, food, rent, house mortgages, etc have increased. This, my friends, is called inflation. The 5 main causes of inflation are an increase in wages, an increase in the price of raw materials, an increase in taxes, a decline in productivity, and an increase in the money supply.

Inflation can be financially dangerous, and in this post, I’m here to convince you to care about the negative effects of inflation. So? What would make you care?

  3. Would The Experts Make You Care?
  4. Would The Stories Make You Care?

It’s a typical thing when the economy grows, but it’s bad. Imagine going to a local grocery store to buy something for $10 which you used to get for $5 which your grandfather used to get for $2. Say a pack of batteries or some apples? Meet inflation.

People all over the United States are facing this issue. That’s 331.9 million people and counting! That’s a whole country’s people facing an economic crisis which could end up wrecking the nation by throwing it into a recession. And a recession means homelessness, depression, political issues, etc.

But why would you care if you’re going steady economically right now? Which reason would make you care? There are thousands of reasons why you may not care. Be that as it may, you should care about this economic crisis because you are the one being affected by inflation, some time or the other! The consumers are affected, and consumers mean you! Isn’t that just obnoxious? Think of what your future generation would be like? Why pay more for something worth less?! What Would Make You Care About The Negative Effects Of Inflation?

Would The Numbers Make You Care?

“The overall consumer price index (CPI) increased by 7.7% over the past 12 months (October 2021- October 2022).”

Shocking! Why people should care about inflation you ask? Well here’s proof: The CPI. The CPI means the Consumer Price Index, and it measures the inflation in the economy. The lower the CPI rate, the better the economy. And with the current rise, the inflation and the economy are almost at a crisis point.  But really, why should you care? Because you are the one being affected, since you are the consumer, and because prices are going up, you’d have to pay more for things you want to buy. If the CPI rates go higher, that could indicate that the market could go into recession, which is overall bad for consumers! Consumers like YOU.

49% of middle-income, 61% of low-income, and 43% of high-income individuals are worse off financially this year.”

As an average that would be 51% of the US population. That is millions of people. And the big reason behind this: Inflation! An ideal consumer, just like you of any class, people would not like this to happen. Do you want to be worse off financially? Do you care for your future and what will happen. You may not, but would the statistics make you care, sooner or later? I hope so.

People Affected By Inflation!

Do you see this guy? Prices are going up for everything, and he has bills to pay! Imagine if you were in his position if you already aren’t. Don’t want to? Well, imagine a friend struggling financially. If this inflation thing rises, then common consumers like you will be affected just like the man in the picture.  The effects of inflation are negative, specifically on an individual. An individual like you. If people don’t care about inflation, bad things can happen every day to them (not that they already aren’t happening to people) bad things such as homelessness, hunger, debt, etc.

Prices Are Soaring!

Simple things such as your needed groceries prices are increasing, and every person will be impacted by this. Why? Because everyone needs the bare necessities! Even people like you (however you are)! If these prices keep on soaring, nobody can afford simple groceries, unless you are crazy rich! Do you know why World Hunger exists? The reason is because people cannot afford food! Effects of inflation could end up in really bad things, and bad things are not could for consumers, just like you and I. But, really, would the photos make you care?

Would The Experts Make You Care?

“Inflation is as violent as a mugger, as frightening as an armed robber and as deadly as a hit man.” -40th POTUS of the US: Ronald Reagan

Previous President Ronald Reagan came to office during poor economic times, when the country was facing stagflation (high rates of inflation along with lots of people losing their jobs), and really helped to boost the country’s economy. And even though he is no “finance geek”, he still is the president who controlled the country from 1981-1989 and brought it out of the economic depression. His words may be very descriptive and tormenting, but they are very valuable because what he says is exactly what inflation is. Inflation can rob people and throw them homeless on the streets, mug all a person owns, and eventually kill them (starvation, debt, suicide, health, etc.). Now if you won’t trust or listen to the president that the whole country, even you supported, who will you? Would the experts even make you care?

Call to Action – What Can YOU Do?

Inflation is a major financial issue for many, and an economic issue for the country, but can you really do something about it as a citizen? You cannot really visit the FED (Federal Economic Department) and convince them to end it because there are many conditions to put down inflation, such as the climbing interest rates, the housing market, etc. But, what you can do is save yourself from this incoming tidal wave! There are 5 things you can check out!

BEWARE OF INFLATION!!!!

Book Review : Benchwarmers

Book: Benchwarmers| Author: John Feinstein | Genre: Sports Drama / Fiction | Age: 11+

Grit means to have passion and persevere for a goal. Grit is something that can drive you to unthinkable heights and establish success in your life for your specific goal. And that, my friends, is exactly what amazing 6th-grade soccer player Andrea (Andi) Carillo has. Don’t judge this book by its cover title, because instead of just sitting on the bench, “Benchwarmers” is about soccer, action, passion, teamwork, friendship, fights, setbacks, victories, and more!

I would recommend this book for 11+ year-olds, agreeing with the publishers that this book is for tweens. The content is smoothly conveyed, creating a nice and continuous reading experience. I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars -⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ / ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐, meaning that the book is absolutely amazing and will take you on a miraculous journey filled with cliffhangers and action, making you want to read on and on!

The plot of this book revolves around 2 protagonists, Jeff Michaels (6th grade, 12 years old) and Andrea (aka Andi) Carillo (6th grade, 12 years old). Jeff, the son of TV Reporter Tom Michaels is just learning to play soccer and goes to try out for Merion Middle School’s newly established 6th grade boys soccer team. Andi Carillo, a 6th-grade girl, fights her way into tryouts, but unfortunately, Coach Johnston doesn’t believe in girls playing on boys’ soccer teams, even though she might even be one of the best players in the tryouts. Andi is cut off from the team because of unfair decision-making. After meeting Jeff and becoming good friends with him, the two decide to put an end to this issue. Through Jeff’s help, the two friends try to use the news and media to spread the word about this unfair event amid threats, fights, bullies, etc. Will their efforts become successful? Will Andi be accepted by Coach Johnston into the team? Will Andi be able to prove herself? Read ‘Benchwarmers‘ to find out!

I really love this book because of the action-packed scenes and the passion for soccer displayed by the players. The imagery makes you feel like you are watching a real-life soccer game, and the cliffhangers make you want to read on and on, eventually finishing the book! However, what I really love about this book is the message that it conveys. This book creates and proves the idea that:

  • Girls are capable of doing whatever boys can
  • Friendship and teamwork will attain success
  • If you have the passion and show the effort, you will attain your goal
  • Respect everyone and always play fair
  • Things will always work out in the end!

A Plastic Problem

A fine morning you wake up, drink some water from a plastic bottle, and then throw it out. Seems simple, right? But imagine that scenario happening to every other person who owns a single-use plastic water bottle, which could be any of the 7.888 billion people on this planet (as of 2021)! That amount isn’t big, it’s HUGE. In correspondence to a previous blog post (Informational Poetry – The Outside), I am writing this post to show what problem this planet is dealing with. Ladies and gentlemen, presenting: THE PLASTIC PROBLEM.

The Plastic Problem

Now, I know that this issue has been previously addressed multiple times in the past few years, but other than informational essays at school, I wanted to have a say on this publicly. Walking outside and seeing a plastic bag flying around, trash in the grass, and the streets littered with crushed water bottles, ripped-up shards of plastic, and whatnot. Not only does that wreck a nice walk in the park, but it also hurts nature and planet Earth.

Did you know that since 1950, people have thrown away 6.3 billion metric tons of plastic and that plastic production has increased by 8.4% every year, putting us on pace to make a cumulative 32 billion metric tons of plastics by 2050? Crazy right! If we don’t do something now, who knows what could happen in the future.

I think we can all agree that plastic is a commonly used material, but some major issues come with it. Firstly, plastic doesn’t biodegrade, which means it can take up space in landfills for a very long time. Additionally, a lot of plastic items are only used once and then thrown away, which leads to a lot of waste. Finally, the amount of plastic being produced and used is increasing rapidly, which is a major concern. However, there are ways we can solve this problem in a way, by cutting down our use of plastic.

Plastic Harms Animals As Well!!!

My Thoughts And Ideas On Solving This Problem

I believe that to solve this problem or at least try to prevent it is to recycle, reuse, and reduce our use of plastic. Recycling is important because it helps prevent plastic waste from ending up in landfills or in the ocean, where it can harm marine life. When shopping, look for plastics that can be easily recycled, such as those labeled with #1 or #2. If your town doesn’t have enough recycling bins, you could talk to your local officials about adding more.

Levels of Recyclable Plastic

Reuse is also important. Instead of throwing away items like plastic containers or bags after using them once, try to use them again as many times as possible. Investing in a reusable water bottle or shopping bag can also help reduce plastic waste. Finally, we can reduce our use of plastic by buying in bulk or using home reusable containers.

My Personal Efforts and Experiences

I have also taken part in this issue. I have gone to beach clean-ups as a kid with my school and taken out lots of trash there. My family has also been very conscious of what plastics we use, how we can reuse them, and more importantly making sure we recycle them. We will continue to do so to help pitch into this solution, and here’s what you can do:

A QUICK RUNDOWN OF STEPS YOU SHOULD FOLLOW:

  • Reuse your plastic items instead of throwing them away
  • Reduce your use of plastic and start using effective alternatives
  • Recycle the plastic so that it can be properly disposed and reused

By taking these simple steps, we can all do our part to reduce the amount of plastic waste that ends up in landfills and the ocean. This will lower the plastic footprint, not harm nature, and make the world a cleaner place. So, let’s take a leap forward and engage in the saving and rejuvenation of planet Earth! Comment down below on how you have contributed to this anti-plastic movement, and subscribe to my blog for more!

Where I’m From – Poem

Reflection is something I really love. It allows you to look back into your past and see what you did and how you grew up, especially in your childhood years. These are memories you won’t ever forget and will cherish for life. In this poem, I take a look back into my childhood town of Shorewood, Wisconsin, where I lived 7 years of my childhood life.

Where I'm From, By Kartik Lakhwani, March 2024

I am from quiet suburbs to bustling streets.
Long harsh winters, and pleasant springs.
Blankets and sweaters, coats and more.
Sleeping in dark magenta frozen nights and waking up to bright snowy days and eating smores.
Feeling the warmth of the heat and the frostbite of the biting chills of the outside.

I am from flowering hills and plains to wet muddy fields.
The smell of dandelions going up your nose.
Vibrant sunrises upon the lake to sandy shores of the coast.
I am from breezy winds on huge biking trails.
Beautiful trees that change color, highlighting the woods.

I am from festivities and cheers.
People popping their beers.
The Brewers are coming to town,
Happiness and partying is going around.
From the touchdowns of the Packers and the hoops of the Bucks.
From the land of the delicious cheese and the city where my little sister was born.
Promoted to big brother for the little baby other.

I am from the old brick Lake Bluff School.
And the cool swimming pool.
Hanging out with the silly friends I made.
Video games, bikes, and toy trains.
Wagons and Dragons, Lemonade and Hot Chocolate,
Dreams and memes.
All of this and more
roll around my head,
Reminding me of where I’m from.

A Robot That Could Save Lives

Is it possible that robots could take over in the future? This is a common question that many like me ponder on because of the great introduction of AI and robots in our lives. Every day, a task is simplified because of a new robot doing it for us, such as the robot vacuum (iRobot, Roborock, Roomba). But could it be possible that robots would be sent to save lives? The signs show that it is likely.

Cristiano Ronaldo: A Mini Biography

By Kartik Lakhwani

Cristiano Ronaldo is a professional Portuguese soccer player who plays as a forward for Saudi Professional League club Al Nassr as a forward, and captains the Portuguese national team. Ronaldo is considered one of the greatest soccer players of all time and is very loved and renowned around the world.

Ronaldo was born on February 5, 1985, in Sao Pedro, Funchal, Portugal, to municipal gardener José Dinis Aveiro (father), and cook/cleaner Maria Dolores dos Santos Aveiro (mother), of a very poor Catholic family, an unwanted fourth child. Ronaldo’s mother had tried to abort him several times by trying homemade recipes because the family already had 3 children, and suffering from poverty.

After Ronaldo’s birth, and as Ronaldo grew up, the family’s poverty worsened because of the expenses, and his father’s alcoholism. His mother took up a cleaning job to earn some money and had to clean the streets, people’s homes, etc. with help from her kids. His siblings loved and pampered him, doing most of the chores for him, and allowing him to be free and do what he pleased.

Ronaldo had trouble controlling his temper and was expelled for throwing a chair at a teacher. He assumed he’d become a village fisherman and wasn’t really interested in academics. And since Ronaldo wasn’t really interested in school, and wanted to only play soccer, he started playing at the place where his father was a kitman. He agreed with his mother to only play soccer, starting his career as a player by age 14, dropping out of school in 6th grade. One year later, he was diagnosed with tachycardia and underwent heart surgery that altered his resting heart rate.

Although Ronaldo was imposed with all of these harsh conditions, Ronaldo never gave up, and had a constant work ethic at what he loved to do: play soccer! This is how he got better, and he became more noticed amongst the clubs and national teams he played in, gradually becoming the GOAT he is now.

Ronaldo has over 300 trophies and awards such as 5 Ballon d’Or awards, record for most goals in the UEFA Champions League and the EUFE Championship, the FIFA World Cup, and the UEFA Nations League Finals, FIFA Player of The Year Award, 2 of The Best FIFA Men’s Player Awards, a FIFA Club World Cup Golden Ball Award, 3 FIFPro World Player of the Year Awards, 5 World Soccer Player of the Year Awards, 6 Globe Soccer Awards for the Best Player of the Year, 3 Gold Onze Mondial Awards, and the Golden Foot Award. He is named the best Portuguese soccer player by the Portuguese Football Federation. He is also the first soccer player to earn over $1 billion as his salary.

Ronaldo’s hobbies and interests list is pretty long, but he mostly likes to play poker/gamble, listen to music, and play soccer.

Informational Poetry: The Outside

Something that concerns me is pollution, and I bet that everyone has an opinion on this too. I think that pollution is really getting to us now, and taking over the beauty of nature. If I were to say, I think we humans are doing this the wrong way. Mother Nature has given so much to us, and in turn, we are making forests burn? Littering trash in parks? Unknowingly killing innocent animals and breaking Mother Nature’s heart?

Because of all of this, I really wanted to express my feelings about what the outside is now, hence I am sharing a poem that I had written when I was just 9 years old:

The Outside, By Kartik Lakhwani, 2019-2020

I gaze out my window, into the fresh haze of moistness,
And I see a tree, with gleaming green leaves, as attractive as an emerald.
I see neawly bloomed, babylike, fragrent flowers.
I hear the high-pitched, sweet, "chirp chirp" of little birds
I am like a magnet, attached to these simple but beautiful natural things.
I stare out like a statue and just glue my eyes to them, enjoying each sight.

But then, I see a tree fall, an who could it be other than lumberjack Paul.
I see a bird get shot and die, and fall into the hands of hunter Harry - That was scary!
I see several flowers being picked, by hers truly, flowershop Francine

Stop! I holler. Don't cut down the tree, you greedy man for money!
Eh, tree? I don't care, I am free, Mr. Smaller.
No I yell! Don't kill it!
Go to hell! I will. 'Cause huntings my hobby, and ain't nobody gonna stop me!
Don't! I scream! Don't pluck them!
A successful flowershop is my dream! Now stop clucking and do some of your own plucking!

I fall to the floor, my eyes droop, and I cry. Destroying nature isn't good, even for food.
Can't we just give saving nature a try?
If they would just have an attitude of grattitude towawrds whatever these living things offer,
This world of gloom will start to bloom,

Once again.
