Day 9 – Homecoming

People say that “The best journey takes you home.”. That’s exactly what has happened with us on this trip to Colorado. It all must come to an end now. All the adventures we had, all the fun, all the joy, everything. You know how I’ve been saying “next day full of adventures” and saying a different location. This time, all I want to say is that we are headed home.

Things were fun in Colorado. Like, really fun. It’s the most beautiful place I’ve been to in the 14 years of my life I’ve lived. All the mountains, and all the pines. The breathtaking views, the gorges, the rapids, the sand, and so much more. Colorado, I’ll forever adore. One sentence to summarize how I’ll think of this trip: This trip’s just been a treasure.

Alright, I’ll get back to going home now.

The Final Countdown: Heading Home

Waking up refreshed, I got ready, just like everyone else. We talked with our kind friends who were hosting us, whom we met after so many years, ate breakfast, and then took pictures with each other before finally saying goodbye. Departing around 9 AM we were headed towards Texas with a 14-hour drive ahead of us. Without stopping, it would be an arrival around 11 PM.

My sister and our friend Aaral said goodbye to each other:

Friendly Goodbye

We took 3 Stops this time:

Goodbye Colorado

Seeing the last of the mountains and the last of the cliffs, I knew we passed Colorado. When the map said “Welcome to New Mexico”, I felt kind of weird leaving such a beautiful place where we spent so much time, but surely, I would come back again!

Going through New Mexico:

Seeing the Welcome to New Mexico sign, we pulled over for pictures, and then left the mesas and flatlands behind, and 5 minutes later “Welcome to Texas!”. The whole car roared with joy as we were back, and headed home!

Colorado to New Mexico: The Difference

INTO THE LONESTAR STATE:

TEXAS!!!!! – Taking a picture with the Welcome to Texas sign, it felt like we were newcomers to Texas. But a few minutes later, that feeling vanished. I was used to the miles of yellow in grassy fields. What a joy it was seeing familiar wind turbines and grass fields. It signified that we were officially in Texas.

— a few hours later–

Windmills in a Texas Sunset

The sunset was a good sight as it slowly turned to night. Driving became harder for my dad though. Image driving 14 hours without taking a break, oh and mind you it was midnight. The car began to swerve at times, but controlling it, somehow, one eternity later, we finally arrived. WE WERE HOME! People say it feels weird to be home. I’ll say that they’re right, especially when you’re coming back after a while. That night was going to be a total ticket to dreamland as we were so tired.

Anyways, back to the important things:

Recommendations and Takeaways

What I’d recommend on a huge drive home:

  • Heading Home
    • Stay – We stayed at one of our friend’s houses, and you could too, that is if you have friends in CO. Otherwise, there are plenty of hotels, lodges, and AirBNBs you could stay in.
    • Eat a filling breakfast before you leave from your home/hotel
    • Depart early so that you can reach your destination earlier.
    • Drive safely at night
    • Enjoy the view!

What I learned from CO:

  • Enjoy the beauties of nature
  • Don’t take too many pictures, be in the moment
  • Be optimistic
  • Believe
  • Be happy with what you get
  • Take on challenges and face fears

That was it for our trip to the centennial state – COLORADO! I hope you enjoyed reading my blog post and are inspired by our experiences and plan to make a visit to Colorful Colorado in the future!
